9443 Loveland Madeira Road
Price for a Guinness: $4.50 | Overall Rating: 3.0
If you're in a rush to read this article then I'll save you the time; this place is a dump. There are many things wrong with Shady's, one being how dirty it is. I'm not talking about not wiping down the counter from last night dirty... I'm talking disgusting. Dust covered ceilings, grout all over the floor, a film across the water in the urinal, and dirty tables. The 5 Second Rule would be 5 seconds too long at this Pub.
The bartender didn't say anything or even look me in the eye until I gave him cash to close out the tab. He poured me perhaps the most pathetic Guinness in a 16oz glass that puts a Bishop's Collar to shame.
The place does come with Steel Tip darts, a pool table, and a very outdated Golden Tee machine. It's equipped for 4 dart boards but one of them was missing... There's also a big stage for karaoke and open mic night. You'll find random kegs throughout the place too. The kegs are not in a decorative state either, they're just randomly in the way (at least when I was there).
I noticed a popcorn machine with popcorn in it, although after looking at it I believe the popcorn was from the day or two before, so I decided to pass. Staying on the subject of "gross"; all of the shelving behind the bar was dustier than that kid in the Sandlot and the beer taps were stickier than Aunt Jemima.
The demographics of the place are low income to blue collar middle class. The prices are dirt cheap, where a sloppy Guinness runs you $4.50, a Miller Lite costs you $2.25, and a Busch Draft sets you back $1.50. If you're drinking on a budget this is the place to go. Sometimes in life you really do get what you pay for, and at Shady O'Grady's it's certainly cheap for a reason.
If the owner decided that he wanted a Mexican Cantina instead of an Irish Pub; he could make the transition over-night by just replacing 4 or 5 things on the walls and changing the name outside. Shady's does not get any form of recommendation from me as I give the place a 3.00 out of Ten for the 3 dart boards.
Slainte.
