Scallywag's. New York, NY.

508 9th Ave

Price of a Guinness: $10.00 | Overall Rating: 6.50

After purchasing a set of darts at a dart shop around the corner, I stumbled upon Scallywag's on 9th. With an authentic and well kept exterior, I was excited to snag a Guinness before heading back across the Hudson. I found a barstool in between a handful of business guys, plopped my little bag of darts and darts accessories on the bar top, and awaited my highly anticipated Guinness. I waited some more... And a wee bit more. After about 4 walk throughs, the bartender acknowledged my presence. "Your bag needs to come off the bar". Ouch, not a fun way to start the experience! I took my bag of darts off the counter and asked for a Guinness and got a below average pour in exchange. They took $10 out of my pocket for the pint.

The bartender quickly turned a leaf after finding out that my bag of darts was not in fact a bag of food. Scalliwag's does offer food, although, I did not indulge. The bartender started chit chatting with me and griping about how annoying some bar guests can be (oh believe me, I have had my fair share of annoying patrons over the years). A friendly and fun banter; we shared a few laughs at other people's expenses. A marvelous add-on to a pint of Guinness.

They have an above average whiskey selection and a private event space in the back. I was not able to tour the entire place, but it does not appear that they offer darts. They have a few TVs and they were on good channels. The place was moderately clean, although, it had a scent of bleach everywhere you walked.

Once the tab was paid I got a nice handshake from the bartender as well as an invitation back to the place. Did I enjoy myself inside Scalliwag's? I'd say so. Would I recommend anyone to go out of their way to enter this pub? I couldn't say that I would. A worthy score of 6.50.

Slainte!
