Molly Malone's is an authentic pub. A little touch of proper, a steady touch of sports, a beautiful upstairs for private events, and fantastic bartenders. Most of the time you'll come across a brogue, which is evidently and depressingly a dying trend at the moment for Irish Pubs across the Midwest.
The parking here isn't the best although if you're traveling by foot like many people in the area do then you're in luck. The curb appeal at Molly's is lovely as they normally have greenery when it's warm outside. They have a small patio for those who like the great outdoors and a nice little foyer upon entering the building.
You enter into the dining room which is cozy and spacious. There are a handful of tables and booths for casual seating and a couple of small areas for live music. They love offering authentic folk music every now and then.
The bartenders that I've had have always been marvelous, as one of them normally gives me an un-asked for Shamrock on top of my pour. The Guinness price is a bit steep for the area at $7.95, however, it does come with a great pour majority of the time. They have a fantastic whiskey selection as well as Paddy's. Speaking of their Paddy's; it's only $3 during happy hour! (Monday through Friday 3pm-6pm)
One day I asked if I could see the upstairs area and sure enough, the friendly bartender immediately hopped to task. He gave me a VIP tour and showed me the pool table and steel tip dart boards. Most people would never know all of that space is resting upstairs waiting to be appreciated.
They offer good pub grub that gets the job done for anyone who's hungry. The food prices are moderate to the area although I may suggest going across the street to either Smoke Justis or Blinkers Tavern if you're picky about your food. The nearby restaurants are actually very, very tasty. That's not a knock on Malone's though so don't get it twisted!
Molly's does a great job catering to anyone who likes watching soccer. As they have the Premier league and all of the other matches on at any given moment. There's always a good watch party going on and you'll surely meet some fine people during a high profile match.
They always seem to have the basics on tap such as Smithwick's, Magner's and Harp as well as a good selection of local favorites. The typical demographics here are middle class with an even mix of blue collar and white collar workers. I'd say you'll find more of your white collar during the evenings and the blue collar during lunchtime.
There's not much to say about Molly's on a negative note. Quite honestly, the few things that come to mind are just nit-picky and rather petty. The parking, some of the drink prices, and perhaps a slight lacking of craic on the weekends bring the rating down a hair. Other than that, this Pub gets a huge recommendation from me attached with a well deserved rating over a 9.00.
