McCoy's Place. Cincinnati, OH.

6008 Springdale Road

Price of a Guinness: $4 | Overall Rating: 5.90

It's frustrating that this place is a bit of a disappointment being that there is so much potential here. It's also been here for a number of years so unless the ownership changes; signs of change are dull. It has good, authentic decor along with a nice layout. There's an old school horseshoe bar, a popcorn machine, plastic darts, a pool table, and a huge patio area.

One of my favorite things (which is almost never appreciated by anyone) is that it's nice and high in elevation. I mean that literally as it is high in sea level and there's just something about being higher than everyone else that gets me feeling good.

Let's look at some of the annoying tid-bits of the place. There's no Guinness on tap, in fact; they only have 3 beers on tap and they're Yuengling, Mich Ultra, and Miller Lite which isn't tickling anyone's fancy. They serve their Guinness through the longneck and they didn't offer me a glass to pour it in. A huge knock.

For the healthy number of TVs in the place, they failed to deliver on broadcasting anything worth a damn. The main video and audio of the place started out with the Price is Right and then moved to a Soap Opera. The guy next to me called it "soft porn". It might make sense as the demographics during the daytime here are middle to upper aged middle class. The average age was probably over 58 years old when I stopped in. Regardless, you'd think you'd want some sort of sports talk show, news channel, Keno, or hell give me HGTV over "The Young and the Restless".

McCoy's does have a jukebox so if you're sick of listening to the Price is Right you can play some tunes.

I didn't order any food, although it did look and smell tasty. One guy near me had a soup and salad and another guy got some meaty looking wings. The Whiskey selection is actually better than many places and you'll have no problem finding cheap canned beer such as Busch if you're on a budget. The parking here is terrific and getting here isn't much of a problem as it's right off the highway. It's not very close to downtown so if you're only in town for a day; I recommend visiting a different Pub such as Crowley's, O'Malley's or Hap's.

McCoy's will give you a little bit of craic, but you're not going to be blown away by any means. I'd say this place is great for the locals who live minutes down the road, but for those of us who live further than that; it's not worth dedicating an entire afternoon for a visit. Potential is great and all, but at the end of the day potential is meaningless if it doesn't deliver. I'm giving McCoy's a solid 5.90 and that's a generous score.

Slainte!
