Price of a Guinness: $6.00 | Overall Rating: 6.00

Flanagan's has now been pouring pints for over 50 years and it's a noteworthy Pub to the University of Dayton. They slap a cover charge on everyone on one particular day each year: UD Parent Night. Parent night is apparently an even bigger night here than St. Patrick's Day. Speaking of Paddy's Day, Flanagan's does collaborate with both Harrigan's and Dublin Pub to provide patrons with a free shuttle throughout the holiday.

The Pub used to be more dedicated to just being a sports bar, however, over the recent years the owners have been focusing more on the Irish culture. One owner, Nick, actually grew up in a small house in the vacant lot that resides on the property. Flanagan's is still very much geared towards watching sports over anything else and as you may expect, your chances of running into some college kids are a bit high. It's not a full-on "college bar" though, so no need to completely avoid the place if you're in the immediate area and need a quick pour.

They pour Guinness in typical fashion. The pour won't blow your mind, but it won't disappoint either. The interior as a whole is very open and dark with a little bit of brick and a lot of green paint. The signage on the walls is rather boring and the vibe overall is more so cold rather than warm and cozy. There is a fireplace out in the front, and they do offer two different bars to sit at. The bathrooms are by no means showstoppers and all of the tables have that cheap, overly manufactured feel to them that you typically see in American Legions and low-end dives. The main bar countertop itself is actually marvelous and well-crafted which throws a bit of a curveball into the mix.

Behind the bar you'll find a depressing whiskey selection and about 16 beers on tap. The prices on both the food and the drinks are very easy on the wallet which is nice and the hospitality as a whole seems above par, especially compared to O'Leary's. To be honest, you're better off going to Harrigan's if you're looking for the Craic.

One funny thing about our last experience is that there was some black guy taking a snooze by one of the entrances, blocking everyone's way in and out. At the end of the shift, you're much better off going somewhere else. However, if you only have a pinch of time and you're craving some Guinness in the immediate area it's at least worthy of a quick sit down and you probably won't leave too disappointed. Does it get the nod? Yes. Does it get a recommendation? Unfortunately, no. Not enough going on here.

Thanks anyway, Flanagan's! Slainte.
